Hon. Iruba Moved a Motion Urging Gov. Obiano to Urgently Equip and Make Functional The General Hospital, Ukpor

At the Plenary on Tuesday 13th June, 2017, Hon. Kingsley Iruba moved a Motion urging the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, to, as a matter of urgency, equip and make functional the General Hospital Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

In moving the motion Hon. Kingsley Iruba highly emphasized that the General Hospital Ukpor is the only General Hospital in the entire Nnewi South LGA, there is therefore urgent need to equip and make it functional for effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.

MOTION

URGING THE GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF (DR.) WILLIE OBIANO, TO, AS A MATTER OF URGENCY, REHABILITATE, EQUIP AND MAKE FUNCTIONAL THE GENERAL HOSPITAL, UKPOR IN NNEWI SOIUTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA.

Whereas by the provision of Section 14 (2) (b) of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, the welfare and security of the people shall be the primary purpose of government;

Whereas the benefits of having a well equipped and functional health care facility like a General Hospital cannot be overemphasized;

Aware that the General Hospital, Ukpor was built by the efforts of Ukpor Community and was later handed over to the government of Anambra State, to assist the government in providing effective and adequate health care to the Ukpor Community, Nnewi South LGA, and its environs;

Further aware that the General Hospital, Ukpor, was among the seven (7) general hospitals slated by the government to be rehabilitated and made functional across the State;

Regrettable that since the handover of the said hospital to the government by the community, the government has not made any tangible efforts to give the hospital the befitting status of a general hospital;
Worried that the people of Nnewi South and its environs are subjected to untold sufferings and hardships in search of effective and functional healthcare facility because of the poor and dilapidated condition of the General Hospital, Ukpor. Consequently, so many minor ailments have resulted in deaths due to poor state of the General Hospital;

Concerned that having regard to the poor condition of the General Hospital, Ukpor, the said hospital has been described in some quarters as a glorified mortuary due to:
(a) Lack of adequate medical doctors;
(b) Lack of necessary medical equipments and supply of medications/drugs;
(c) Lack of requisite number of paramedics and qualified nurses;
(d) Lack of functional theater, labour room and maternity ward;
(e) Lack of functional electric generating set to complement the epileptic power supply’
(f) Lack of good source of water/borehole.

BE IT THEREFORE RESOVLED BY THIS HONOURABLE HOUSE THAT:
The Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, be urged to, as a matter of urgency, equip and make functional the General Hospital Ukpor in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
