Hon. Barr. Kingsley IRUBA yesterday (06/10/2016), moved a motion directing the Commissioner for Finance, Commissioner for Education and the Chairman, Board of internal revenue as a matter of urgency, to publish and submit to the House of Assembly the approved list of all the legal taxes, levies and fees.
In leading the debate on the motion, he drew the attention of the House to His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Obiano's economic stimulus package marshalled out on the 26th September 2016 to ease the pain of recession on Ndi Anambra amongst them is tax relief.
Consequently, His Excellency forthwith suspended
the sale of consolidated emblem in Anambra State; suspended the sale of hawkers permit on all streets; suspended the collection of wheel barrow tax in all markets in the state and abolished the imposition of unapproved levies on students in public primary and secondary.
This motion is therefore sequel to the suspension of some taxes and levies in Anambra State as well as abolition of imposition of illegal or unapproved levies in our students in public primary and secondary schools by His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano.
He submitted that the Anambra State Government's approved list of taxes, levies and fees be made public in the interest of Ndi Anambra so as to help the government put to an end the collection of illegal/unapproved taxes, levies and tax by some unscrupulous individuals.
Equally by this, Ndi Anambra will be protected from double taxation and payment of unapproved taxes, levies and fees.
